WHAT'S SCREENING?
My Mother's Journey
Directed by Sam Hampton. Produced by Sam and Kirsten Hampton

My Mother’s Journey is a film about the power of the individual and the courage it takes to make societal change. Elizabeth Hampton was an African American woman who influenced social progress in upstate New York during the civil rights era. This film, narrated by Hampton's son, documents her migration from the South to the North and her challenges and discoveries along the way. The documentary captures the significance of the South among African Americans moving to the North and the influence this culture had on social change during the turbulent 1960s.

A rough cut of the film was screened through Docs In Progress in January 2009. Since its completion this summer, the film has screened at film festivals, schools, colleges, and social service institutions. Following the screening, Sam Hampton will talk about how he is using the film to motivate community members to reinvest in the tradition of addressing important issues of social change and justice and how he is approaching outreach with a focus on educators and activists.

COST?
$20 per person
Includes networking time, the screening, and a chance to talk and hear directly from the director of the film about the process of making and distributing it.
This series is also a fundraising event with all proceeds going toward the support of programming and services provided by Docs In Progress. Tickets are tax deductible up to a value of $10.
