 CREENING?\nMy Mother's Journey\nDirected by Sam Hampton. Produced by S
am and Kirsten Hampton\n\nMy Mother’s Journey is a film about the po
wer of the individual and the courage it takes to make societal change
. Elizabeth Hampton was an African American woman who influenced socia
l progress in upstate New York during the civil rights era. This film,
narrated by Hampton's son, documents her migration from the South to
the North and her challenges and discoveries along the way. The docume
ntary captures the significance of the South among African Americans m
oving to the North and the influence this culture had on social change
during the turbulent 1960s.\n\nA rough cut of the film was screened t
hrough Docs In Progress in January 2009. Since its completion this sum
mer, the film has screened at film festivals, schools, colleges, and s
ocial service institutions. Following the screening, Sam Hampton will
talk about how he is using the film to motivate community members to r
einvest in the tradition of addressing important issues of social chan
ge and justice and how he is approaching outreach with a focus on educ
ators and activists.\n\nCOST?\n$20 per person\nIncludes networking tim
e, the screening, and a chance to talk and hear directly from the dire
ctor of the film about the process of making and distributing it.\nThi
s series is also a fundraising event with all proceeds going toward th
