April Film Suggestions

It's that time again! March was apparently a busy month because nobody, and I mean nobody commented on Heckler. So I seriously want you all to chime in this time on the films YOU want to see. I spoke at DC Media Makers this month on how to grow our community and I have a handful of ideas, but I'd also like your input on what you want to see, how we can improve the site, and what makes you want to interact more.

Again, I'll stress that you should feel free to fill up the forum with suggestions for films we haven't watched yet. The tab "Docs We Love" is full of films suggested by others already so if you can't come up with a new one - check out the list and pick one. I'll be pulling films from the forum to put into a poll this weekend so we can democratically select our film for April.

Again I'll point out that we've added city groups to the site where we've noticed pockets of doc watchers. Please join your group so you can coordinate viewings/discussions of our films and meet others from your respective cities that love these films as much as we do.

I want to establish a more regular schedule and will do my best to moderate and stimulate discussion around the films we watch. So fire away! Hit me with your best doc!

Oh man! I was sooo busy I didn't have time to watch Heckler! I hope to watch it soon. And one of my favourite films from Hot Docs last year was Girls Rock! - I highly recommend it, if you haven't already seen it. I'll add it to the list if it isn't already there.

I think that's the second recommendation we've had for "Girls Rock!". It's definitely going to have to be on the poll this month. I've had two recommendations in the past two weeks for "What the Bleep Do We Know" one of which was from a Romanian friend of mine who's pretty brilliant when it comes to selecting films. He claimed it was "life changing". Keep coming with the recommendations! Totally psyched for this months film series. We're going to have a great showing here in DC - I can feel it. Are you going to have a screening where you are?

"What the Bleep Do We Know"
Personal favorite-- Everybody should see it!

"The Elegant Universe"
A documentary mini series made for television. It's about 3 hours long.. But every moment is worth it! Excellent film with beautiful visual aids for understanding what can be some rather complex ideas about our universe.

"Grass: a Nation's Battle for Life"
Great film. It silently follows the nomadic Bakhtiari tribe of Persia (now Iran) as they complete a seasonal migration of their livestock. It's culturally insightful.
