I saw this films at Silverdocs and was really enamored with its content, style, the characters - and its mission. It's a film about "a small town, with a big secret." Part Ocean's 11, part flipper, part save the whales commercial - all documentary about a cause that doesn't get a lot of attention. It's a gripping film.
Head over to www.thecovemovie.com to see release dates in a city near you. Get a group of friends (check our groups section and see if a DocumentaryClub.org group has already formed in your city) and go check it out. You won't be disappointed.
See a list of screening dates here. In DC we'll be attending August 7th - feel free to join us if you're in town. Other folks - please post what screening you're going to so others from your city might be able to attend. I'd love to hear all of your responses to the film here in the forum.
We're working on getting the Directors of the film on board to join in the discussion. Tune in to www.documentaryclub.org for more!
Caught THE COVE at the press screening in Sundance at January and found the film overwhelmingly powerful, infuriating, daring and unexpectedly cinematic. This is passionate advocacy filmmaking from an unquestioned source. It is the best doc I have seen this year, out of a couple of hundred so far...but what really pissed me off was the reaction of a few industry scumbags behind me who reacted negatively to the film....."forced", "there are plenty of other Dolphins out there", "why are the Asians always the villains?".
I couldn't contain my disappointment with these morons and let them have it.......verbally. I am glad the word is getting out on this terrific work and looking forward to the inevitable day when Michael Bay buys the rights and we'll have "Suicide Mission:The Cove" with Cage, Beal and Platt. MUST viewing for those who have a feel for the place they call the soul.
I absolutely recommend forming groups and going to see this film - if you can pull together 10-25 people - you may be able to get a group rate through the Cove's website - www.thecovemovie.com. We're shooting for 25+ here in DC. It's so important that these films do well in their opening week! Post to the site if you manage to scrape together a group and we'll tweet it! Cheers!
Agree, amazing film. I saw 12 docs in 3 days at Sundance and this was my second favorite (my favorite was Over The Hills and Far Away, now being distributed as The Horse Boy). This was a big budget doc, but they knew what to do with it. It's cool to see the social change that occurs within the film and even cooler to see the film itself continue that social change as more and more people see it. Great movie.
Agree - I saw The Horse Boy at Silverdocs and it was my 2nd. Ha! What an amazing film. The interesting thing about both of these was that they each in their own way were unbelievable. The difference is in the Cove - with a budget you can make this kind of thing happen. You can afford the gadgets, the toys, the crew (not saying that they did - just saying it can help build the story and make it go along). But in the Horse Boy - I almost couldn't believe what I was seeing. When the child jumps off the horse and runs and goes potty by himself for the first on the way back down the mountain - you're like - no way. Both amazing in their own right - and both very moving in very different ways. Would recommend either to anyone.
I'd really like to hear what you all thought of the Cove? Do you have any questions you'd like answered by film team? Post them here. Really looking forward to hearing what you all thought.
